Our Team

How often should I see the dentist?

The general rule of thumb is to schedule a regular cleaning and check-up at least once every 6 months. If your dentist determines that you’re at greater risk for gum disease or oral cancer, you may be asked to come in more than twice a year.

Do I need to visit the dentist if my teeth feel fine?

Yes! You should be seeing your dentist regularly, at least one to two times a year, before something goes wrong. Dental issues can progress without any obvious signs or symptoms until it suddenly becomes an emergency, like a painful toothache or infection. Routine visits to the dentist helps detect issues early on.

Do you take emergency dental appointments?

Yes, we always make room in our day to accommodate emergency patients. When you call us with a dental emergency, we’ll ask you a series of questions to determine the severity of your situation. If you’re in extreme pain, we can administer relief and provide comfort before we diagnose the underlying condition.

At what age should my child start visiting the dentist?

Do you do direct billing?

Yes, we will send your invoice directly to your insurance company for ease and convenience.

Will my treatment hurt?

With the dental advancements we have today, treatments should not be painful. Some procedures are more invasive than others where patients may feel a bit of pressure; however, your dental team will check in with you during the treatment to ask if you’re comfortable and make adjustments so that you experience minimal discomfort. If you’re feeling nervous, speak with our team about your options which can include sedation. We want to make the experience as smooth, comfortable, and relaxed as possible for you.

I brush and floss everyday, are professional teeth cleanings necessary?

Yes, professional cleanings are still necessary even if you have great dental hygiene and good oral health. There is some buildup of plaque and tartar that are hard to remove with a toothbrush, floss, or pick. Additionally, professional cleanings include a powerful fluoride treatment that helps prevent tooth decay. Cleanings also come with a general check-up where your dentist can look for issues and address them early on. The goal is to treat any gum disease or tooth decay before it becomes a much more costly and painful problem.

At what age should my child start visiting the dentist?

The Canadian Dental Association recommends children see a dentist for the first time by 1 year of age or soon after the first tooth erupts, whichever comes first. Dental appointments for babies and young toddlers are focused on meeting the dental team, getting them used to seeing a dental office, and creating an environment where they can look forward to dentist appointments.

We want to make sure that teeth and jaw development are progressing properly, which allows for early intervention. We will also look for common issues such as excessive thumb sucking and grinding. Most importantly, our team takes the time to educate parents on how to brush baby teeth, any concerning symptoms to watch out for, when to start using fluoride supplements or toothpaste, and how much and when fluoride toothpaste is necessary.

“Excellent, friendly staff, very organized;”

Excellent, friendly staff, very organized; hygienists are committed to and diligent about their clients’ oral health; Dr Newman is very friendly and good at her job. Rates are decent (only slightly more than what my benefits provider reimburses).
